Information supplied by Rev. Larry San Pedro of
Philippians Christian Church in Tondo, Manila.
Distribution Location: Tondo National High School
Pastor Larry's words:
"First I would like to thank the Lord for what happend before the distributions. It strengthened the network of the churches in the area and developed a good working relationship with the pastors and Christian workers. (This unity was) not only (evident) in the schools, but extended into the communities, (as after the distribution the volunteers) even went to the homes (of students) and visited parents."
Because of the change the principal, Mrs. Lagman, witnessed in her students following the distribution of the Book of Hope, the pastors were able to set up a weekly Bible study within the campus. 200 to 300 students attend the Bible study on a regular basis. At her request the pastors come to her office once each week to pray for her and her responsibilities as a principal. In addition to involving the pastors in the Values Education classes, Mrs. Lagman set up a rotating schedule for one pastor to be at the school each day to provide counseling services for the students, faculty and staff, as well as for the students' families.
Over the summer Pastor Larry arranged for a family camp to be held at a Christian retreat center outside of the city for 48 students and their parents who had been contacted through the Book of Hope distribution. The government provided the bus to ransport them and the church raised funds through contacts with local businesses. Over the course of the week all of those in attendance gave their lives to the Lord!
Pepsi (yes, that's her name) owns the cybercafe where a senior in high school gave his life to the Lord. The following is as Pastor Larry shared it:
A 4th year student had a Book of Hope with him while playing 'Counterstrike' at a cybercafe. Seeing the Book of Hope 'Pepsi' asked him, 'Why don't you open the hopenet.net website?'
He opened it and started reading the 'Family' page. From there he continued reading through the site. And right there he accepted the Lord!
Pepsi also read what the boy was reading and was so encouraged because she came from a broken family. Read previous spotlight stories
